YOP: Week 26

I will probably miss the next couple of weeks during my trip....so here goes....

This week I worked on a variety of things....My Hermione's Everyday Sock is on the gusset.....

My Adele sock is on the heel flap.....

I started and frogged my Spring Buds hat...and started it again...I have finished the brim.....
I also did another two rows on my Cedar Leaf Shawlette, but it doesn't look any different than the last picture I showed....

I will be taking these 4 projects with me, but I'm not sure how much time I'll have to craft....I also need to bring some crochet hooks with me...at the moment I don't have a portable crochet project, but the Nerd Wars challenges start tomorrow, so I'll put something together before I leave....

I am able to move my Plum Pudding Starghan to the completed list, finally!!!!

I will be posting from the road, so although not projects, you'll see some of America...I am road tripping from Connecticut to Wyoming with my nephew...similar to last year's trip with my niece...the Hubs, unfortunately will be staying home....he starts a new job in a week....yeah!!!!!

So pop in, if you want to see where we have been......

Pig Roast

There will be pictures of meat cooking, if you'd rather not see, please skip this post....

Every year my friend Danae and her husband, Dave, host a pig roast at the beginning of the summer...

It's a time for many of us to see each other before we go our separate ways for the summer....and past friends to come back and visit....

Only a few of the staff showed up this year, but we had fun chatting and holding babies.....Danae has 7 grandchildren, although only four were there today....

We didn't get a shot before a couple of the others left, so here we are, the stragglers....Deidre, Danae, me and Deb.....Deb is retired and loving it...

there is my new haircut...14 inches cut and colored red....

The pig is roasting under there....

That's us chatting, and Deidre holding hogging Baby Finn.  Denise is also in this picture...hmmm, maybe I need a D name!

Okay you've been warned....

They also cook some chicken, along with the pig...yummy!!!!!!

FO Friday!!!!!

This will probably be my last FO Friday for awhile...on Monday I am leaving on a road trip.  The Hubs is staying home....but since I'm doing all the driving, there will be little time for crafting...I am bringing my Cedar Leaf Shawlette and maybe a sock or two....but I don't expect to get much done..

So what did I finish this week?  I finally completed the Plum Pudding Starghan...I went until I ran out of the Plum Pudding yarn, which was only one more row....so three rows were added since the last time...and it is now complete...

The hat was going to be impossible to finish before the end of Nerd Wars, so yesterday I found a very Springy ball of fun yarn in my stash and made a lariat for one of the challenges (the yarn turned out to be a PITA to crochet with!)

And since Wilkey is joining me on my trip, I decided he needed a cowboy hat.....

That is the end of my finished objects....I'll be posting from the road, but not sure how often...

Please checkout these places for more finished objects...

Yarn Along and WIPs

So this week I have been working on 5 projects....one I completed on Tuesday, so it'll get it's spotlight on Friday....

Going clockwise....we have the Adele socks...I'm at the heel flap....I have done just a basic vanilla pattern on 64 stitches...not sure what I'm doing for a heel flap yet...any suggestions?

My Cedar Leaf Shawlette...hey I learned what a short row is!!!!!

My Hermione's Everyday socks (H's socks)...I have turned the heel and am picking up the gusset....

My Spring Buds hat....I finished the brim and moved on to the charts and realized I had a big gaping hole...tried to fix it, couldn't...it's been frogged...tried to go back and restart it, but then I couldn't get it to connect....put it down and walked away....today I have to sit at the car place to get my car tuned, so I'll work on it for a couple hours there......

ETA:  I am back about an inch on the brim, started it up again watching Deadliest Catch.

The book is The Distant Hours by Kate Morton.....I just started it...I ADORED her The Forgotten Garden and enjoyed The House at Riverton....I also have The Secret Keeper....

ETA:  As you can see, each project has it's own Jessalu bag....I have many of her bags now....

Join up here, here and here, if you want to read about some more projects....

Oh and I chopped off 14 inches of hair....

Cold Sheeping - Raise your hand if you thought that would last!

I did decide to cold sheep it during the month of June....well except for my yarn clubs (I belong to 4 at the moment)  I did not plan on purchasing any yarn this month....then on the last day of school I saw an ad....for these...
And I showed the Hubs and he even said I HAD to get them!!!  The whole kit was reasonably priced and arrived today...
It came with the yarn and pattern (your choice of PDF or hard copy), the beads and a watermelon stitchmarker....How awesome is that!!!!!!!  It is by The Knitter's Brewing Company and they have some great sock kits....

Also in the mail today was my last month of the Mad Geek Dr. Who club by Mad Color....in the third month we also get a box bag by Jessalu....I absolutely LOVE the colors this month!

The colorway is The Fall of the Eleventh....The Gallifrey on the bag reads "Hello Sweetie" and is exclusive to the club...she will have this print in her shop, but the Gallifrey writing will be different.  The next round is a Firefly round...and I've already rejoined....although I have so much of Heather's yarn now...I may need to take a break at some point...

Also this past week, I received from two of my other clubs....

Knit and Fiber Creation The Walking Dead....This is Zombie Milton Walking....

and all the way from Sweden I received my Hunger Games club
It's pretty, but a bit pastely for my tastes...It is The 75th Arena inspired....but I will say that the keychain is all sorts of AWESOME!!!!

As I plan on visiting several yarn shops on my trip...I knew I wasn't going to buy yarn this month...but look at me, still managed to get some!

YOP: Week 25

Everyone else will be starting their new lists for Year 3...however, since I just joined this January..I am still on my Year 1 list.....

This was the last week of school, so I did not have a ton of time....and I made things for my students...so the only completed things were 5 monkey head keychains and a Snorkle.  I also worked on my Adele socks...and worked on the heel to Hermione's Everyday socks.....I am itching to cast on for The Age of Brass and Steam, but need to work on the Cedar Leaf Shawlette...and cast on a hat for the Nerd Wars challenges this month!

Graduates!

Yesterday I went to graduation in the town where I teach.....the students who were graduating, I had them in second and in third grade, as I looped with them....I have much love for these kids....and I wish them all the best luck for their journey into adulthood......

Since these are so old, I'm going to post them....

Second Grade:  I taught Dual Language, at the time, so had two classes, that I shared with a partner teacher.

 Third Grade:

I have lost touch with most of them, I've run into a few...one got married last year and I went to the wedding...Some of them, I have no idea where they are.....but I want to say a big old CONGRATULATIONS to the ones I watched cross that stage yesterday!
Beatriz, Hershelle, Faith, Kiara, Yessica, Jesse, Kelvin, Sebastian, Efrain, Benjamin, Alejandro, Geovanni, Angel, Anthony, Ariel, Gregory and Orlando...I am so very proud of you!!!!

The one student that I did take a picture with was Beatriz.....I saw many others, but it was a huge crush of people and hard to stop and take pictures...Beatriz is a student I spent a lot of time with, in school and outside of school....she has great parents who have raised their children (3 girls and 2 boys) through some really, really tough times....I am so, so proud of her graduating!  And her sister, Valerie, who received her GED the night before!!!!!!

Finished Object Friday

I've had so little time and energy this past week...the end of a school year is exhausting...so many things to take care of....so except for the finishing packing of my classroom (will be done today)...my biggest FO is the end of another school year....and me as a fifth grade teacher..I am moving back down to second grade...yeah!!!!  I was moved to fifth grade under protest....so glad to move back to my original grade level...

So my students have been begging all year for me to make them something...I made a couple of special monkeys for two kids on behavior contracts...then I hunted through the other things I made...the things I was not emotionally invested in I took to school....I was still short a few...so I made these up at the last minute....

A Snorkle.....it started as a spider...but then I decided I was too tired to make all those legs....hence a Snorkle....

Monkey head keychains...I made 5....the bottom one is still left.....I think they are cute.....I might write up a tutorial for them, as they were really easy!

I hope you all have a wonderful day! And check out these other links...

Today I Cried.....

Twice....the first time from frustration that I had so much to do and my students were being so uncooperative....and I had another fight in my room....the special education teacher came in and I took a break...and cried in the office while waiting for some paperwork to be checked off...

I almost cried when the student who was facing possible retention, burst into tears when I said Congratulations you will be moving on to 6th grade.....I knew she was not going to be retained a couple of weeks ago, for circumstances, but she did not....she was so scared and just overwhelmed that she would not be retained and cried all the way to the bus.....she has promised to work harder next year....

I cried when I came back in from bus duty walking through the empty gym and heaved a big sigh and said outloud, "I survived."

It was a very, very tough year for me....and while I will miss my students individually, I will not miss them as a class....

but we had some successes....all of them improved their reading, by some degree, most of them improved their math knowledge....and, again, all of them improved in their behavior....

It is over...and I am ambivalent....I am neither happy nor sad.....just tired.....

I have to finish packing my room tomorrow and then I will truly be on summer break...

I may go to the high school graduation to see some former students receive that diploma and then on Saturday I am attending my first quinceanera...I am very excited...and can't wait to see those former students....

YOP: Week 24

I worked on completing the car blanket...It didn't turn out how I pictured...I really only wanted something for the center part of the seat...and I was thinking it would be strips...It turned out circular..oh well...I'll still use it...I'll cover the seat with it when I get out of the car to prevent the seat from getting too hot...black car, black interior...HAWT seats in the summer!

I have 3 1/2 days of school left....and am packing my room to move grade levels...again...third time in 5 years...but I am happy with this move...going back to work with some of my bestest friends in a lower grade level...but still so much to do!

My sleep has been pretty messed up this weekend...12 hours on Friday...3 1/2 last night..I took about a 2 hour nap this afternoon...still not really tired, but gonna go read and that will put me to sleep...

Hope everyone has a marvelous week.....

FO Friday

Well it's not a lot, but I made another monkey.....

He is for a student....who has done an amazing amount of work this year and improved considerably...

I also added to my pile of triangles...

And added a couple more rows to the Cedar Leaf Shawlette...

My finger is still swollen a bit, but better....I have finished correcting and entering grades...now to finish cums...and packing the classroom..looks like I might be moving to another grade level...my third in 5 years....

Knit and Crochet in Public and Yarn Bombing!!!!!!

So Saturday was Yarn Bombing Day and Sunday was the start of the week for Knit and Crochet in Public.

I usually head up to my LYS for this...well it's a good thing I liked her on Facebook, as this year the location was changed to The Clock and Watch Museum...which is less than a five minute walk for me...

so last night, after reading her post...at 11:00, I stayed up and made some quick flowers for yarn bombing....

It was a decent turnout...

We had a very young participant....
Isn't she the cutest thing?  I played with her quite a bit..she will be one next week...
My first official yarn bombing!  The flowers I made can be seen in the third picture with the clock...they are tied around the clock...I did not put those ones up, but I did put this one up...

I was limited with what I could do, since my finger is still sore...but I did enjoy sitting in the sun (my first sun outing this year) and chatting and playing with the baby..here is my kit I brought and the squares I worked on a bit...
It was  a lot of fun.....

YOP: Week 23

I get comments about the length of my list...and I do NOT expect to do all this in a year...especially when I continually add to it....but these are all the projects that I have the yarn and the patterns for...so I keep them all here for easy perusal...yes they are on Ravelry too...but here they are in a nice list and I can see exactly how many sock patterns with yarn I have...so you know I don't go and buy that new pattern with yarn (like that has stopped me! But it's a good theory)

So this week:  I added another two rows to my Cedar Leaf Shawlette....I made bunches more triangles...and I made a monkey...yes another monkey...it is for a student....

I also strained/sprained my finger on Friday and came home early....I can crochet, as I only use one hand, but not knit...

Today I went to Knit in Public Day and accomplished my first yarn bombing!  Pictures tomorrow!

Yarn Along and Works in Progress Wednesday

Hi there folks!  It's been awhile...and I am also still catching up on my blog reading as well as posting....when I miss a day, I have to go back and read any others I missed too....Need to see what's going on with those blogging peeps!

We have 10 1/2 days of school left and I am busy planning my upcoming road trip with the nephew..so excited....not much crafting will be going on during the trip...but lots o' sight-seeing and other stuff....

So what have I got in progress now?

Well I started my Nerd Wars dissertation....I am making the Cedar Leaf Shawlette by Alana Dakos in Madelintosh Pashmina in Norway Spruce..I think I'm going to love this...I have done the first 6 rows...

I also started a triangular blanket for my car seat....I have a black car with black interior...it get's HAWT!  Plus I can use this for one of the challenges in Nerd Wars....so I am making triangles using Naturally Caron Country in 5 shades....I wanted something that felt cool...and wouldn't be too hard to take care of....and I had a bunch of it...it has been discontinued...

Then I added a stripe to my Adele socks.....I'm just doing a vanilla pattern, because I wanted those stripes to come out right....

I have been reading James Patterson's W on the nook....I downloaded it last summer and my niece was reading it on our trip....I don't think it is all that good....it is FILLED with cliches and how he thinks teenagers talk....it's a bit annoying....but it's short, so I'll finish it....tomorrow a read-along starts for A Comedy of Errors by Shakespeare, so I found his works for .99 and downloaded...I haven't read any Shakespeare since leaving college, but I had read quite a bit (all those Eng Lit classes I took)   So it'll be interesting to see how I will like him as an adult...

Cold Sheeping

If you read this blog, you know that "cold sheeping" is a foreign word to me.....however since I anticipate doing a bit of shopping during my trip in July, I decided to "cold sheep" it this month...except, of course, my yarn clubs!!!!

Yesterday I received my Nerd Girls Random Fandom......love!  It is inspired by Oz...and I think I may need to make something for the nephew....he and I share a love of The Wizard of Oz....
Here he is at 4, in his preschool production of The Wizard of Oz....he also was in a city production playing a munchkin about 6 years later....we have seen Wicked together...and he called and invited me to go see Oz with him a couple weeks ago....he is now 18 and living on his own...so I don't see him too often....but he once said to me.....I had commented that he was getting too old to want to spend time with me...

and he said.."I will always have time to spend with you."  awww...melt my heart!

So I believe I'll be making him something with this...It's Just Your Heart Withering Away
Then about 2 weeks ago, I received my Who Club from Mad Color.....now Heather does not do the "expected colors"  She takes inspiration and makes yarn with COLORS....

This is The Church of Auvers, taken from the painting in the Dr. Who episode with Vincent Van Gogh..
Look at how well it matches the painting....brilliant!

The previous month was: Life is Too Short and You are Hot..taken from Blink, but she didn't use the angels...she used this...

Sally Sparrow is so fantastic...

Like Heather (Mad Color) has said...her company name is Mad COLOR.....she likes color....

YOP: Week #22

Welcome to Week number 22!!!!  It's also the start to the new Nerd Wars tournament!  I firmed up what I will be making for the challenges and added them to the list in red...

The only things completed this week were a demented owl, and another mameshiba for the Cute Critter War.

I spent yesterday going through and sorting my yarn for the challenges...my bed

I picked out the yarn for Cedar Leaf Shawlette...that bluey teal on  top in the second picture, it's Norway Spruce in Madelinetosh Pashmina.  I also will be using the green skein peeking out from under the purpley ball for the Spring Buds hat.  I also put a bunch of skeins together that are destined for certain projects....today I will pull out the ball winder and swift and wind some yarn....I also have to do a swatch of the Cedar Leaf Shawlette for my dissertation proposal....
